About the Opportunity

Bluepoint Construction Ltd. is currently looking for a General Manager to lead its civil construction business in Kelowna, B.C. on a full-time basis

The successful candidate in this role will be responsible for all business operations with regard to civil construction activities for Bluepoint. The GM will successfully execute current projects and continue to seek, estimate, and bid on future opportunities within Kelowna and surrounding communities while working with Meraki Resources to identify and achieve Bluepoint’s business strategy and growth targets.

More specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining customer relations including managing contract obligations, rate negotiations, and ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction
  • Overseeing the development, maintenance, and communication of project scheduling and equipment production allocation, ensuring customers are satisfied with proposed scheduling 
  • Developing preferred subcontractor lists based on: rate negotiation, reputation, scheduling, performance management, and safety obligations
  • Being responsible for procurement, material purchasing, lease, and rental agreements
  • Adhering to Meraki Resources' corporate reporting structure and timelines, including: monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting, key growth targets, etc.
  • Being responsible for all project rate structures, capital planning, reporting, allocations, setup and communicating KPI targets, and tracking
  • Reviewing and establishing all company compensation (hourly, salary & management), health and benefits plans, defined contributions, and bonus program structure
  • Developing and establishing a business structure of independence and growth
  • Establish a marketing and branding strategy, ensuring company's equipment is easily identifiable and consistent 
  • Working with the controller to develop: monthly/annual budgets, aging reporting, monthly financials, invoicing, and job and equipment cost reports
  • Developing a recruiting strategy that highlights: attracting new talent, orientation, wage negotiation, performance management, safety training, career development training, and leadership coaching
  • Mentoring, coaching, and developing direct reports, and establishing a culture of professional development and personal improvement 
  • Being a safety leader to ensure all projects are completed accident-free, instilling a safety culture that meets or exceeds industry standards

More About You

In order to qualify for this role, you will have 5 years of experience in a similar role, ideally in the civil construction industry, with a valid driver's license. You have great knowledge in civil construction, both technically, administratively, and with proven management ability. A combination of education and experience will also be considered. 

As our ideal candidate, you are proficient with computer software used in the construction industry - HeavyBid and BlueBeam experience would be considered assets. In order to succeed in this role, you will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills while being a strong, dependable leader who is confident, thorough, and able to mentor and coach others. You have an exceptional technical background with an entrepreneurial mindset, and is an expert in time management, prioritizing, and multi-tasking. You are self-motivated, accountable, approachable, and proactive with a desire for constant self-improvement.
